Terms
The full terms of sale
The complete version of what the product pages summarise. How ordering works, what the equipment is for, and the few things it may not be used for.
Ordering and refunds
Hardware is currently sold by pre-order from a production run rather than from stock. Reserving costs nothing and charges nothing. We ask for payment only once your unit is built and you have confirmed the address. After that it stays refundable in full, at any time, until the unit ships. Cancel before then, for any reason or none, and you get all of it back.
Postage is separate from the price and is quoted in the same email that asks for payment, so you see the whole figure before you owe any of it. Where the country you are in charges import duty, VAT or a customs handling fee on arrival, those are yours and we cannot pay them on your behalf.
We do not publish a shipping date we cannot stand behind. If you ask where your order stands you will get the actual answer, including when that answer is “later than we hoped”. If a run cannot be delivered at all, every pre-order is refunded in full and we say publicly why.
Equipment of this kind is subject to the regulatory approvals of the country it is sold into, and delivery to you is conditional on the applicable authorisation being in place for your unit at the time it ships. That condition is ours to satisfy rather than yours. It can only delay an order or cancel it with a full refund, and it never leaves you out of pocket.
What the equipment is for
P1LOT hardware is built to communicate with vehicle equipment that has been removed from a vehicle and mounted on a desk, a simulator rig or a test bench. An instrument cluster today, and the switches, selectors and column modules that go beside it as each is added. It is not an automotive part, it is not road-legal equipment, and it is not sold or supported for use in a vehicle.
The wiring loom supplied with a unit is made for the cluster you told us you have. Connectors on these clusters are physically interchangeable and are not wired alike, so a loom used with anything other than the cluster it was built for can destroy the cluster, the interface, or both. Damage caused that way is not something we can cover, and it is why we ask which cluster you have before a loom is made rather than shipping a generic one. Every loom leaves here printed with the clusters it fits. Check that label against your cluster before you connect it.
By buying or using it, you agree not to:
- install it in, or connect it to the electrical system of, a vehicle used on public roads;
- use it to alter, reset or advance any mileage or service record held by a cluster or any other vehicle module;
- use it to defeat an immobiliser, alarm, emissions system, or any other safety or security function;
- use it to prepare a vehicle or a part for sale in a way that misrepresents its history.
Tampering with a vehicle's mileage record is a federal offence in the United States and a crime in most other countries. We will not knowingly assist it, and we will not help anyone who asks us to.
What we do not sell
We do not sell instrument clusters. A cluster is a used vehicle part that carries a service and mileage record, and reselling those brings obligations we would rather not put between you and a working dashboard. Clusters are widely available from breakers, salvage yards and the usual marketplaces. Tell us which one you have and the right harness ships with your order.
Independent product
BrainIOStream LLC is not affiliated with, endorsed by, authorised by or sponsored by any vehicle manufacturer. Manufacturer and model names appear on this site to state accurately which instrument clusters our equipment has been made to work with. All such names are the property of their respective owners.
Our products contain no manufacturer software. The firmware is written by us, and it works by sending ordinary messages on a vehicle data bus in the same way any other device on that bus does.
Firmware
Firmware published on the downloads page is provided for use on our own hardware, free of charge, and it stays available whether or not you bought your unit from us directly. Production units accept only builds carrying our signature, so a file from anywhere else is refused by the board rather than installed.
We do not take firmware away. A release that has been published stays published, so a board can always be returned to a version that worked for you.
Support and warranty
Every unit carries a twelve-month warranty from the day it arrives. If it turns up faulty, or fails in normal use on a bench, we repair it or replace it. Which of the two it is, is ours to decide and ours to pay for.
That covers the unit not doing what it was built to do. It stops being seen on USB, an output goes dead, the status light stops working, a rail will not come up. Tell us what it does and what it stopped doing, and we will tell you which way it is going.
What it does not cover is damage. Physical damage, liquid, anything burnt, a connector forced or torn off, a pin fed a voltage it was not built for, or a board that has been reworked or re-soldered. Those are one thing rather than several. The fault is in what happened to the unit and not in the unit, and a board that arrives back half burnt is not a manufacturing defect however it is described. The two analog pins are the easiest to lose this way , because they read 0 to 5 V and 12 V on one of them reaches the processor at six, which is past what it will take. The developer manual says so beside the pin, and it is the one warning on that page written in the imperative.
Carriage both ways is yours. Send the unit to us and we send back the repaired or replacement one. Neither leg is included in the price. Ask before you post anything. Most of what gets sent back is something we can settle by email in an evening, and a board in a parcel is a board you cannot use while it travels.
Refunds are not a warranty remedy. Once a unit is with you the answer is a repair or a replacement. Money paid for an order that has not shipped is a different thing and is refundable in full, as above. Nothing on this page reduces the rights you have under the consumer law where you live, and where that law says otherwise, it wins.
Support is email, answered by the engineers who designed the board and wrote the firmware. There is no ticket queue and no script.
