Selected work

Selected projects

Delivered work across wearables, automotive, medical, industrial and mobility systems. Several projects ran under NDA through an engineering partner, so the client name is the restricted part rather than the technical detail.

P1LOT One

Automotive

In-house product

A USB interface that drives production car instrument clusters from PC telemetry and reads the vehicle's own switches and stalks back the other way. One connector carries two CAN buses, a LIN master and the power for whatever is on the end of it. We designed the board, developed the firmware, decoded the equipment's messages and wrote the manual. On sale, with support for further equipment added by firmware update.

Connected gym equipment

Sport

Under NDA, via an engineering partner

The Linux application layer for commercial fitness machines: C++ services on an embedded Linux board talking to the machine's controller over CAN, and packaged as signed Debian builds so an installed fleet could be updated without a site visit.

Implant charger drivers

Medical

Under NDA, via an engineering partner

Bare-metal drivers for an advanced wireless charger for implanted devices. Written directly against the silicon, with no RTOS sitting between the driver and the hardware timing it depends on.

Feed mixer weight tracker

Industrial · IoT

Profeed

A wireless weighing sensor that retrofits to industrial feed mixing equipment and reports load weight, mixing and unloading data to the operator's app in real time. We developed the hardware and firmware, including the precision analog front end that has to stay accurate on a machine that is moving, and over-the-air updates for units already installed in the field.

Electric scooter battery management

Automotive · Mobility

A battery management board supplied with no documentation and no source. We traced the schematic back off the finished hardware, identified the parts whose markings had been removed from what they were wired to, and developed firmware that behaves like the original on the reconstructed design.

Rental bike GSM and GPS lock

Mobility · IoT

A lock for a rental bike fleet, rebuilt from a board that arrived without source code. We recovered the design, wrote replacement firmware for it, and connected it over GSM to a back end so units could be located and released remotely.

Rhythm-tapping phone case

Consumer · Health

inTempo

A phone case with force sensors under a textured back panel. The app plays music filtered by tempo and the case measures how accurately the user taps the beat, which is used as a grounding exercise for anxiety and panic attacks. We developed the hardware and firmware from scratch: the sensor front end, rechargeable power, the BLE link to the app and over-the-air updates.

Spine posture wearable

Health · Wearable

Atlant

A sensor worn on the back that detects when posture slips and answers with a haptic buzz on the body, rather than a notification the wearer has to pick a phone up to see. We developed the hardware and firmware from scratch: the accelerometer processing that has to tell a slouch apart from ordinary movement, the haptic driver, the BLE link to the app and over-the-air updates.

Force-trigger mobile game controller

Consumer · Gaming

A controller thin enough to sit on the back plate of a phone, adding two force-sensing trigger buttons that a touchscreen has no way to offer. The thickness set the constraints: a slim cell, and a firmware power budget written to match it. It enumerates as a standard BLE HID gamepad, so nothing has to be modified on the game side to support it.
